CHANGING YOUR HOME PAGE
MSN is the default home page with Explorer. You're not stuck with it. To
change the page, do this in Explorer:
- Surf to the Web page you want for your start page
- Go to Tools
- Click on Internet Options
- Hit General
- Select Use current
At home, I use http://www.freeserve.com as my start page.
WALLPAPERING YOUR DESKTOP
Puzzled how your co-worker gets that Spice Girls photo on his Desktop screen?
Any graphic or image found on the Web or stored on your hard drive can be turned
into Desktop wallpaper. Just right-click on the image or file and select Set
As Wallpaper.
ADDRESS BAR SHORT CUTS
You can access and navigate the address bar with keyboard short cuts. The F4
key moves your cursor to the address bar and highlights whatever's there. For
the tricky task of editing an address, select the address and move between its
sections by pressing Ctrl plus the left or
right arrow.
ADDRESS BAR SEARCHING
You can use your address bar for searching. Just type in your keywords and
Explorer will whisk you directly to the MSN AutoSearch results or, in some
cases, a corporate-sponsored Web site.
SILENCING THAT MODEM
If the racket from your dial-up modem makes the neighbor's dog bark, here's a
way to quiet that puppy. Go to Control Panel
and double click Modems. Select your modem,
click on Properties and adjust the speaker
volume slide bar to the setting you want (or to the off position).
